The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has appointed Dartmoor resident Pamela Woods as a new Member to serve on Dartmoor National Park Authority. She is appointed to represent the national interest and sit alongside County, District and Parish representatives.

Pamela brings a wealth of experience to her role having worked for many years as a senior manager with a leading national charity. She subsequently ran her own management consultancy working with national, regional and local not-for-profit, public and private organisations, carrying out management and strategic planning reviews and advising on constitutional and governance issues. She has also served on a number of local and regional Committees, including Christow Community Land Trust which promoted and executed the eco-friendly Passivhaus housing scheme in the village, the first such development in a National Park in the world.

Until her appointment to Dartmoor National Park Authority, Pamela was also a Councillor on Christow Parish Council. She is a judicial office holder, holds an honours degree in Law from the University of Warwick and was, until her recent retirement, a Member of the Institute of Leadership and Management.

Pamela has lived in the Dartmoor National Park for 25 years and believes that the conservation of the Park’s unique character and its enjoyment by the public should be balanced with the day-to-day needs of people who live and work in the Park.

Pamela enjoys gardening and allotmenteering, bird watching and walking.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs recognises that membership of the Authority must include the right balance of personal qualities and experience, and is looks for candidates from a broad range of backgrounds, representative of the social and cultural mix in the country at large. In particular, the Candidates will be expected to provide a voice for the national interest on the Authority.
