West Country accountants and financial planners Old Mill are sponsoring Children’s Hospice South West’s 2016 £50 challenge in a bid to raise £25,000 for the North Devon based charity.

The £50 Challenge is an annual event where local businesses compete against each other to turn a £50 start-up investment into as much money as they can over a three month time frame, with all money raised going directly to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). Old Mill will be hosting its own special celebratory version of the challenge from April to June.

Old Mill - who are the current record holders – will fund the £50 start up investment for all teams taking part, co-ordinate the challenge itself and are organising a launch event on January 28th at Quickes Farm and Kitchen in Exeter. 6-8pm.

In 2014, Old Mill’s winning team turned their £50 into £5,772 by running a number of money raising events including a cake sale, cheese tasting evening and sponsored waxing of staff. As 2016 marks CHSW’s 25 year anniversary, Old Mill hopes to get 25 teams involved to make this year the most successful yet.

Mark Neath, Director at Old Mill and part of last year’s winning team, said: “The £50 Challenge is a great event which encourages local businesses to put their business brains and money-making acumen to the test. It encourages people in different teams and roles to work together share their ideas and engage with the wider business community. Above all else though, CHSW is an amazing charity and really does deserve all the support it can get.”

Naomi Dymond, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser, at CHSW’s Little Bridge House in Exeter said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have Old Mill sponsoring the £50 Challenge in this, our 25th Anniversary year. The whole team have been fantastic supporters of CHSW since they won the challenge in 2014.”

“We rely almost entirely on voluntary donations, so without fantastic companies like Old Mill we simply couldn’t continue to be there for life-limited children and their families in the South West. Thank you, from us all. We can’t wait to see what weird and wonderful fundraising ideas this year’s challengers come up with!”

Mark concluded: “Try the £50 Challenge in your business – the challenge will take on a life of its own and it is fascinating to see who comes to the fore and drives it forward.”
