RAMM Café wins Gold
Describing it as “a great all-round experience” the RAMM Cafe has received a Gold Award in the Taste of the West Hospitality and Retail Awards 2013. The judges went on the say that the food was great local food, the prices fair, the surroundings clean and comfortable and the staff smiley.
Rosie Denham, Exeter’s Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture, commented: “Here is further proof that Exeter is synonymous with excellence: award-winning food in our award-winning museum.
"That perfect combination of international standards with a local focus is what makes Exeter such a special place to live and work in. RAMM and its café exemplify the Exeter experience.
"RAMM is one of the council’s flagship services. Museum of the Year 2012, it has won many accolades and I am delighted that Otterton Mill is providing visitors with food and drinks to match.”
RAMM’s café is run by Otterton Mill. It offers tasty, natural food and drink which is local, seasonal, organic or fairtrade. Otterton Mill, near Budleigh Salterton in East Devon, has been milling flour for over 1,000 years and baking bread by hand for almost 40 years.
The RAMM Café menu includes dishes which feature the flour, bread and other baked delights produced at the Mill. All served by an experienced team who care about good service and a warm welcome.
Awareness of where produce comes from, how far it has travelled and how it’s been handled is extremely important to the team from Otterton Mill and forms the core of their business ethos at the RAMM Café.
Their creative bakery-centred menus are designed to deliver rustic authenticity, balanced nutrition and a fresh taste in both hearty and light bite meals and snacks. These are coupled with organic soft drinks and juices from Devon and outstanding coffee from Hawkins Coffee, one of a small number of companies roasting their beans in Devon.
"We are delighted after only 6 months of operating the RAMM Cafe that we have achieved one of the top hospitality awards in the South West.
"It's a fantastic testimony to the hard work and commitment of our RAMM Cafe team that they achieved this accolade in their first year," said Simon Spiller who owns Otterton Mill with wife Caroline.
