If you go up to the moor today you’re sure to get a surprise! For every bear that ever there was can come along to the annual Dartmoor National Park Teddy Bear’s picnic! They can also bring along their owners and families too!

Join Rangers Bill and Ella, from 11am – 1pm on Saturday 16 May, for fun activities at Venford Reservoir (Ordnance Survey Grid Reference SX 685 712).

Remember to bring along your favourite Teddy, suitable outdoor attire and a picnic.

Activities will include the Great Bear Bake Off – cupcake decorating, and traditional games and storytelling…....

Police to keep summer watch on Dartmoor

Devon and Cornwall Police is teaming up with partner agencies to tackle crime across Dartmoor over Easter and throughout the summer.

Local officers will be running Moorwatch, a multi-agency operation which aims to prevent and disrupt criminals operating in isolated rural areas, particularly at car park and beauty spots surrounding the national park.

The moor historically sees a seasonal rise in crime in the summer months with an influx of visitors to the region.

Opening of Clearbrook Ramp improves accessibility of Drake’s Trail

The final section of a walking and cycling route linking Dartmoor to Plymouth was opened to the public on Friday 28 November.

The development of the Clearbrook Ramp project, near Yelverton, has been the final hurdle in making Drake’s Trail, between Plymouth and Tavistock, accessible to all cyclists and less able users. This section of the off-road route has been funded by Devon County Council and the Department for Transport as part of the £7 million “Granite and Gears” programme designed to improve cycle access to, and within, Dartmoor National Park.

Digging into new ground in Christow

A unique development that will provide 18 affordable highly energy efficient homes in Dartmoor National Park, is about to start on-site.

The £3.6million project in Christow is being led by the Christow Community Land Trust (CCLT) and supported by Teign Housing, which has invested £574k and will manage the properties once built.

Thousands of young people will set off on the 2014 Ten Tors challenge this weekend, spending two days in small self-sufficient teams walking through some of the most stunning scenery Dartmoor has to offer.

Dartmoor National Park Authority has been working closely with the Army in terms of route changes and providing training to team managers to ensure that the event has minimum impact on the fabric of the moor and its wildlife.

Government cash for Dartmoor cycling plans

Ambitious proposals to improve cycling access to Dartmoor National Park have received £4.4 million of Government funding today.

Devon County Council and Dartmoor National Park, who are leading the successful bid, have welcomed the announcement by the Department for Transport.

The project will open up access to the moor by improving and completing a number of multi-use trails on Dartmoor as well as creating “cycling hub” sites at Princetown and Moretonhampstead, which will provide dedicated facilities for visitors.

South Devon Rural Housing Association (SDR) and Teignbridge District Council are celebrating the opening of a housing development, which provides much needed accommodation for people with learning disabilities.

Set in the Dartmoor National Park area and close to the historic Buckfast Abbey, Braemar Apartments and Merryfield Barns is a development of six apartments and four cottages that provide independent living for people with learning disabilities leaving residential care or other shared accommodation.

Man falls to his death at Dartmoor's Haytor Rock

At shortly after 10.00am on Saturday 2nd February 2013, Police were called to Haytor Rock on Dartmoor where a male, who was described as being in a distressed state, was seen on top of the popular tourist attraction.
