16 killed, 80 injured in fireworks accident in Mexico

A tragic accident involving fireworks occurred in Jesus Tepactepec, a village of about 1,000 people 70 miles (112 kilometers) east of Mexico City on Friday 15 March. A fireworks explosion during a religious procession killed at least 16 people and another 80 remain hospitalised due to their injuries, authorities said.

The huge blast is believed to have occurred when a rocket landed on a truck carrying fireworks. Some of the victims are also believed to have been carrying fireworks at the time of the explosion.
