Exeter School is pleased to complete this year's Oxbridge admissions process with the announcement that eight pupils have been offered places, two unconditionally.

In the last six years, 35 pupils have received Oxbridge offers. Exeter School has an excellent record of success in placing pupils in a range of leading universities.

At Cambridge, Jack Alderman has an offer to read Human, Social, and Political Sciences (HSPS) and Juliet Everson to read Natural Sciences at St Catherine's; Bertie Broomfield to read Modern and Medieval Languages (Spanish and Russian) at Fitzwilliam; George Milner to read Medicine at Emmanuel; Matilda O'Callaghan to read Geography at Girton and Beth Salisbury to read Land Economy at Gonville and Caius.

Former pupils Andrew Doane and Rebecca German have been offered places at Oxford. Andrew is to read PPE at Keble. Sammy Sargent scholar Rebecca has a place to read Music at University College with a Choral scholarship.

Head Boy George said his involvement with Medsoc over the last few years had been invaluable, along with support from teachers who kindly gave up their time for interview practice, explained the application process and offered extension beyond A Levels.

"The fantastic course at Cambridge and the warmth of staff and students at Emmanuel College convinced me to apply there - although seeing an outdoor pool on a summer open day didn't do it any injustice too," he said.

George is interested in research and public health alongside clinical practice and is excited by what the future holds.

Musician Juliet said she hoped to read Natural Sciences, with emphasis on Biology.

"I chose St Cat's because it has an affiliation to Dr Mason, who is Head of the Department of Physiology as I currently hope to go into Comparative Physiology, and because it has an excellent tradition of extracurricular music, which I hope to continue. It also has two libraries.

"The school helped invaluably, offering advice on books to read and personal statements, as well as practice interviews. I would definitely consider a career in academia or research."

Linguist Bertie found Exeter School's Oxbridge group helpful and recognised the input of his languages teachers.

"The whole culture of learning and studying at Exeter has enabled me to have the best possible platform from which to make this sort of application after which I am considering anything from journalism to the foreign office."

Beth said she was interested in the breadth of the course and the varied content of a degree in Land Economy.

"The weekly Cambridge group helped me set targets and meet deadlines. Mock interviews with subject teachers improved my confidence and ability to use my wider reading and knowledge in relevant answers."

Geographer Matilda said the course at Cambridge, being joint physical and human Geography, offered a great opportunity to explore all aspects of the subject.

"Girton too, on visiting, had a warm community spirit, a microcosm of a much needed sustainable world," she said.

"After my degree I hope to assist in field work, gathering real data to help make effective decisions. My interview and pre-test preparation with Exeter School gave me excellent grounding to develop my knowledge and to understand how the whole application process worked."

Actor Jack, who recently played a lead role in the Senior School musical Guys & Dolls, chose Human, Social and Political Sciences because it encompassed a large range of his interests.

"I felt most fortunate to be accepted to the college I had applied to, St Catharine's college, as the feel of the place was just right," he said.

"For the future I would hope to enter some form of political journalism and also plan to do some campaigning on laws surrounding education."

2016 leaver Rebecca said she was very excited to be studying music at Oxford with such inspirational and engaging lecturers.

"Exeter School and in particular all the Music department staff have been incredibly encouraging and I can't thank them enough for offering ongoing support in the application process during my gap year- an offer wouldn't have been possible without them!

"I can't wait to sing with the chapel choir of University College to be surrounded by music in such a vibrant and exciting place."

Alumnus Andrew said he was very excited to be offered a place to read PPE at Keble and felt Exeter School prepared him perfectly.

Exeter School carries out a guided programme of events throughout its two years of Sixth Form to prepare pupils for university interviews and future employment including specialist talks from universities and alumni, a practice interview scheme, comprehensive careers evening, Oxbridge group, Medical Society, and two in-house university and careers advisers.
