14 medical offers for Exeter School

Fourteen Exeter School pupils have been offered places at Medical School, or to read Veterinary Science or Dentistry for September 2017.

Many of these pupils received more than one offer and in the competitive field of Medicine they should be congratulated on this considerable achievement.

In the last three years, Exeter School has received 38 medical offers.

Peter Boddington, who runs Exeter School's thriving Medical Society, said he believed successful medics needed to be motivated, organised, pro-active and confident.

"This is certainly true of the 14 successful applicants who gained offers for places at Medical School this year," he said.

"After a gruelling year of writing applications, sitting BMAT and UKCAT tests, facing a barrage of interviews alongside working hard to secure the top grades required, it is fantastic to be able to watch these pupils succeeding in the first step toward their goal!

"I have hugely enjoyed their enthusiasm and company and wish them all the best as they move on."

Exeter School's MedSoc consists of about 30 pupils ranging from Years 9 - 13 and is open to all pupils with a general interest in Medicine, Veterinary Science or Dentistry or who are considering entering the profession.

It is designed, over four years to confirm (or otherwise) pupils' desire to enter Medicine, to inform and to develop the skills and attributes required to make a happy and effective medic.

The society is run by a Lower Sixth Form committee who choose the events and speakers, including medical parents and alumni, who offer wisdom and advice.

"It is a busy and demanding programme, but then, that is life in medicine," said Mr Boddington.
