Man in hospital after being rescued from River Exe

A man was last night admitted to hospital after being rescued from the River Exe.

The fire service were called to the incident after recieving a call from a member of the public reporting that a male had gone into the River Exe near the Port Royal Inn in Exeter.

Appliances are believed to have arrived at the scene at just after 6.30pm on Friday ( 25th January) evening.

One fire appliance from Exeter Middlemoor, one from Exeter Danes Castle, one from Exmouth with the boat and the Specialist Rescue Team were mobilised to the incident.

On arrival the crews made a thorough search of the area using torches and thermal imaging cameras, both from the river bank and by crews in the boat looking for the male.

Further appliances were mobilised from Exeter Danes Castle, Topsham and Crediton to assist with the search.

Police and ambulance crews were also on scene.

Shortly after 8pm, one male was rescued from the water by fire crews in the boat and transported to the river bank and placed in the care of paramedics. The male was transported to hospital by ambulance.
