Driving Instructors across Devon are using social media to help with a police appeal for information following the death of a 12-year-old in an accident with a lorry.

Exeter Advanced Driving Instructors reported the incident on their Facebook page and asked for witnesses to come forward.

One of them, Martyn Morris, who runs Trident Driver Training, said: "We are trying to find out if anyone was in the area or if anyone saw anything. We realise in situations like this any snippets of information can help."

Mr Morris (above) said there had been a massive amount of sympathy for the family.

He added: "I have a 12-year-old son myself so it's really hit home. As an organisation we are also looking at running a road safety campaign that we can take into schools and elsewhere."

The collision happened on the zebra crossing on the Topsham side of Countess Wear roundabout on Thursday afternoon (28 August).

The boy, from Exeter, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

The road was closed for five hours while serious collision investigators carried out an examination of the scene.

Police are carrying out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 101, quoting log 480 of 28/08/2014.
