A Witchy Romance on Cathedral Green

Romance blossomed when Willy Wonka met Witch, Granny Weatherwax on the Cathedral Green.

The drama happened as witches, a baddie, a warrior and a ghostly king were enjoying a spot of sighting around the city, posing outside the romantic House that Moved and the atmospheric Stepcote Hill, before arriving in the calm oasis of the Cathedral Green.

But wait, who’s causing a commotion? Racing down the hill was a large group of Oompa Loompas, with Willy Wonka leading the charge!

On spying something to jump over (boys!) the Oompa Loompas took it in turns to leap over the vehicle barrier outside the cathedral, and it was then that Willy spotted Granny Weatherwax.

It was love at first sight.

Their eyes met as tourists photographed the two curious groups, and a quick kiss convinced Willy he had met his true love, grabbing her hand he started to run away with her, but no!

Dead King Verence stormed after them, reminding Granny Weatherwax of her solemn duty to perform the Terry Pratchett play Wyrd Sisters, for the good citizens of Broadclyst in their Victory Hall, on 13-15 August. A passionate farewell embrace ensued and a distraught Willy fled back to Barnstaple, from whence he had come for a Grand Day Out with his Oompa Loompas, mumbling about it being his annual fancy dress birthday party trip.

Yeah, pull the other one; you’ve got a chocolate factory to run!

But what of our forsaken Granny Weatherwax? She nipped around the cathedral corner and soon found solace in the Cakeadoodledo cake shop (no we didn’t make that name up!).

Well, as we all know cake IS the answer to everything and a nice cuppa calms everyone down.
