Three is a magic number for Optix!

With the sun finally showing its face, Exeter strategic marketing business Optix Solutions has a definite spring in its step with 2024 promising to be its best year yet.

The number three seems to be a common theme: revenue is up by 33 percent in the last six months and growth one third, and the three business owners at Optix Solutions, Alastair Banks, James Dawkins and Rob Stevens are feeling upbeat.

This positivity comes after the Business Barometer from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking noted a fall in business confidence in the South West against optimism in many other...

Community minded businesses, such as cafes and shops, are being encouraged to join a growing movement to help the environment.

The concept is simple. Reduce the number of plastic bottles being thrown away by inviting people to re-fill their water bottles with tap water for free. It’s a win-win; good for the environment; good for people’s health, to hydrate with water rather than sugary drinks; and good PR for the businesses and charities that open their doors to thirsty passers-by. What began as a local campaign in Bude, Refill now has attracted national appeal with a diverse range...

Entrepreneur Craig Bernhardt of B Health & Fitness, who already runs a successful gym in Dorset, was initially turned down for funding by his bank. Graham Higgins from Griffin stepped in to develop the business plan and facilitate discussions with other banks.

The first bank he approached agreed to fund £175K for the new venture.

With additional funding secured through private investors, the fitout of the gym went ahead in time for the planned opening on January...

The latest annual figures from Experian the market insight platform show that UK deal volumes decreased slightly in 2017, the first fall in volumes shown since 2008. There were signs in early 2017 that volumes were picking up, only to see a reversal in later months with the slow down starting in mid-2016 following the Referendum.

Data from other sources indicates that this fall is mainly attributable to deals involving foreign companies as either buyer, vendor or investor. UK deal volumes look to have increased which perhaps surprisingly supports higher confidence levels about...

Steenson signs new deal at Chiefs

Gareth Steenson has spoken of his delight after putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal with the Exeter Chiefs.

The club’s record points-scorer is to extend his stay at Sandy Park until at least the end of 2019/20 season and is the first indication from Director of Rugby Rob Baxter that he is keen to keep hold of a number of his frontline stars moving forward.

Signed by the Chiefs back in the summer of 2010 from the Cornish Pirates, the 33-year-old fly-half has played an integral part in the recent rise of Exeter out of the Championship and into one of the leading rugby...

Exeter Chiefs 41 Montpellier 10

If there are ever thoughts of another tunnel being dug beneath the English Channel, then the Exeter Chiefs pack could well put in a tender for the role.

Rob Baxter's juggernaut set of forwards have become past masters in the art of digging deep to extract rich rewards.

Against visiting Montpellier, the English champions were ruthless in their execution of duty, delivering a six-try victory that kept alive their hopes of qualification in this season's European Champions Cup.

Having led just 7-0 at the break thanks to a converted try from Dave Ewers, Devon's finest...

Chiefs side to face Montpellier

Rob Baxter insists his side will “fight for everything” ahead of tomorrow’s crunch European Champions Cup encounter with Montpellier at Sandy Park (3:15pm). In what is effectively a ‘do-or-die’ encounter for both sides in a hugely competitive Pool 3, the English champions know victory is imperative if they are to stand any chance of advancing into the latter stages of the competition. Back-to-back defeats against runaway pool leaders Leinster have seen the Chiefs slip to third in the standings, four points adrift of their French rivals, who themselves have put themselves back in the...
