In July EX2 Group was proud to support Building Greater Exeter’s Work Experience Week, an inspiring initiative aimed at introducing Year 10 students to careers in the built environment.

Planned works to Exe Estuary Trail

A section of the Exe Estuary Trail cycleway between Turf Locks and Church Road, Powderham is planned to close between Monday 08 June and Monday 15 June in order to complete the final surfacing of the cycle path.

Due to the maintenance, both the cycle path and public footpaths will be closed for most of the period. Because there is no suitable diversion route available, pedestrians and cyclists are asked to avoid this section of cycleway for the duration of the closure.

Public transport proposals revised

More than half of public transport passenger trips planned to be cut in Devon are now proposed to be restored, following widespread public consultation.

Devon County Council had originally planned to reduce passenger trips by almost 400,000 this year to save £1.7 million, but it is now proposing to reduce this to just under 170,000 after talking to communities across the county.

Conservationist and reptile expert Crocodile Joe visited Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park on Thursday 28th May to personally welcome two spectacled caimans to their new home at the brand new reptile area in the Animal Barn.

The two crocodilians were rescued by the RSPCA in Cornwall where they were then temporarily housed at Cornwall’s Crealy Great Adventure Park before their move to Devon this May Half Term. Free demonstration day at RGB Exeter

The Exeter branch of RGB Building Supplies is holding a free Summer Trade Day on Tuesday 9th June where those that work in the trades and DIY enthusiasts will be able to see demonstrations and talk to experts about a number of different products.

Exeter city centre office damaged by fire

Fire crews attended a blaze at an office in Southernhay West last night (Monday 1 June).

One appliance from Middlemoor and an appliance from Danes castle, along with the aerial platform also from Danes Castle, were mobilised to the city centre fire at around 9.30pm.

The officer in charge confirmed that there was a fire in the building involving a paper shredder.

Exeter CAB reports drop in client debts

Local charity Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau has published its advice trend statistics for April 2015. The charity helped 512 people directly with advice and information on 1229 individual problems.

On average, clients with money problems had debts totaling £6,927.80, down by £388.80 compared to the previous year when the average was £7,316.60.

The amount of advice that the charity has been able to provide has increased in the following areas compared to last year:

Bluebird Care launches community grant scheme

The Bluebird Care Grant scheme has been created to provide local community and volunteer groups much needed funds so they can continue to perform the fantastic work they do.

William and Sara Flint, Directors of Bluebird Care – Exeter and East Devon, are passionate about making a positive difference to people’s lives, be that of their customers, staff or by supporting local community projects.

Plans to double free childcare

The Government has announced plans to double free childcare for hard working families – which will benefit up to 50,000 parents in the South West to the tune of £5,000 per year.

The offer of 30 hours of free childcare per week during term time means parents will be able to get on while bringing up a family.

All three- and four-year-olds in working families will be eligible for 1,140 hours of free childcare per year - twice the current entitlement.

Police launch summer drink drive campaign

Devon & Cornwall Police is warning drivers to be careful this summer, as it launches its annual drink and drug driving campaign.

Despite long term reductions, drink driving still accounts for 15% of road deaths and almost 10,000 casualities annually.

Throughout the month-long operation, police will be emphasising these messages with motorists across the Force, and drivers can expect to be tested if they are involved in a collision or if stopped for an offence. Routine stop checks will also result in drivers being tested.
