The first Bank Holiday Stableford took place this past Monday with 99 players battling the course to try and trim their handicap. Winner of the event was Lauren Pearce with a stunning 40 points playing off a handicap of 3. English former football player and manager, Kevin Keegan OBE took time out from a ‘Southern Sporting Club’ lunch presentation held at Sandy Park to sign an official Exeter City football shirt. The footballing legend aged 63 was the keynote speaker at the sporting lunch hosted by David Duckham MBE, the former Coventry and England rugby player.

Zara boots home a double clear at Bicton

Zara Phillips was among the competitors at Bicton Arena on Saturday where an additional day was added to its two-day competition after Withington Manor in Gloucestershire was cancelled due to bad weather.

Phillips, a member of the Great Britain Olympic team that won a silver medal at London 2012, returned to competitive riding last weekend following the birth of her first child in January. Exeter School pupils have certainly made the most of their Easter holidays with six representing their country in sport from water polo to rounders.

Year 11 Ben Green is representing England U17s in cricket and is currently on tour in Sri Lanka. Ben has had good success in the one-day series and has previously just been selected for the three-day game which began on 24 April. At the end of the one-day series, he was the leading wicket taker on tour and the fourth highest run scorer.

Wednesday saw the Captain take a team to Bigbury for the away leg of the Annual Lloyd Rowett match. Bigbury was in excellent condition, and on a sunny, but tough day with a cold easterly wind, all 6 of the matches were very close.

Captain, Ray Banfield, and his partner Neil Woolfrey, gained a half from the top match. Vice-Captain, John Fairman and David Inglis lost 2 down in a close match. Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has led the tributes to lock James Hanks, who has been forced to retire from the game with immediate effect due to a serious neck injury.

The 29-year-old forward announced on Tuesday that he was calling time on his 10-year career with the Devon club following advice given to him by leading medical experts.

Hanks - who featured 192 times for the club, scoring seven tries in the process - sustained his injury during the final minutes of Exeter's LV= Cup semi-final win against Bath at the Recreation Ground last month.
