Exeter City's wait for a win goes on

Match report: Exeter City 1 York City 1

Exeter City and York City played out a 1-1 draw at St James Park, as the wait for the first win of 2014/15 continued for both sides.

The teams were level for just seven minutes, before David Wheeler rose brilliantly above marker Femi Ilesanmi to head home Matt Oakley’s delivery from deep.

However it was centre-half Keith Lowe that earned York’s equaliser, heading in a swinging corner from Luke Summerfield with ten minutes left on the clock.

Exeter had to defend solidly throughout but also created chances to win the...

Chiefs continue winning ways

Late tries from Matt Jess and Henry Slade ensured Exeter Chiefs maintained their unbeaten record this pre-season as they saw off a strong Ulster side at the Kingspan Stadium.

Trailing 21-8 entering into the final 10 minutes of an entertaining encounter in Belfast, the Chiefs dug deep into their reserves to produce two excellent scores to seal victory.

Ulster played their part on the night with winger Rory Scholes crossing twice, alongside another try from debutant Louis Ludik, but it was not enough to see off Rob Baxter’s valiant visitors, who also claimed a first half...

Caldwell set for Ulster

Summer signing Ryan Caldwell says he wants to build on an encouraging start to life at Exeter Chiefs when he features in this evening's pre-season friendly at Ulster Rugby.

The 29-year-old forward was one of eight new recruits brought to Sandy Park by head coach Rob Baxter during the close season - and he got his first taste of action at his new club when he featured in the second half of the 24-17 win at Cardiff Blues.

Caldwell returns to his Belfast birthplace aiming to sink his former club as he starts in a powerful Exeter pack for their latest pre-season work-out....

Exmouth Town win rearranged friendly

The fixture was originally due to be played at Minster Park as part of pre-season, but was postponed due to heavy rainfall.

SWPL Division One East side St Martins had a trio of early chances but were halted at the six yard box, and it was the Premier division hosts who soon took the lead.

No. 9 Matt Dawson was left with a tap in after the away keeper parried a strike to his feet in the seventh minute.

The...

Injury blow for Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs scrum-half Dave Lewis will sit out the club’s remaining two pre-season friendlies after injuring an elbow in last week’s win over Cardiff Blues.

The 25-year-old sustained the blow during the second half of Exeter’s 24-17 victory at the BT Sports Cardiff Arms Park – and has since undergone a scan to determine the full extent of the damage caused.

Already head coach Rob Baxter has confirmed Lewis will sit out tomorrow’s trip to Ulster and the forthcoming friendly against Championship side Worcester Warriors on August 29 – and is hopeful the former Gloucester No....
