Watermeadow Grange opened its doors to the local Topsham community for two packed public sessions showcasing the power of mindset and elite mental resilience.

The event, titled ‘An Audience with Louis Alexander, ’ featured the 26-year-old endurance adventurer and three-time world record holder sharing the extraordinary stories behind his global feats.

Rail investment now for Devon’s future

I have been a Devon transport campaigner since 1975, during which time we have pressed for greater investment in railway lines and trains. In that time we have successfully seen the re-opening of stations at Pinhoe, Digby & Sowton, Ivybridge and the reintroduction of more frequent services on many local lines. This is to be applauded.

However it is now becoming abundantly clear that our railway infrastructure in and around the county is in trouble. We desperately need urgent and deep attention to the whole rail system in the region. No wonder people are feeling abandoned by...

Think again!

Mother Nature has yet more rain in store for us this week with ice in some parts this evening.

The Met office forecast is as follows:

Monday: A drier day generally with bright or sunny spells although still with some showers, these becoming less frequent in the afternoon. Much lighter winds than of recent days. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Becoming wet and windy again on Tuesday, with strong to gale force winds and squally, possibly wintry, showers...

Three appliances called to Feniton fire

Three appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to a kitchen fire in Fenition today ( Sunday 9th February).

The incident, which took place at 1.58pm, resulted in extreme damage to the kitchen.

Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, together with positive pressure ventilation to extinguish the fire. Despite this the kitchen received 100% damage by smoke and 5% damage by fire.

The cause of the fire was accidential and there were no reported casualties.

Dogs in Devon Preened to Perfection with New Grooming Facilities

Bicton College students and their four-legged friends are pleased to be moving to their new dog grooming centre on the East Budleigh campus this month.

Relocating from the current building to newly developed facilities as part of the new Animal Husbandry School means students studying animal care will now benefit from state-of-the-art equipment in the dedicated dog grooming centre.

Bicton College offers several dog grooming courses at different levels, and students are currently in need of dogs for washing and drying, trimming and nail (claw) clipping. All breeds and ages...

Sidbury Community Enterprises bids to buy Red Lion, Sidbury & launches vision for pub

Since May 2013 a campaign has been underway to retain the Red Lion pub in Sidbury, East Devon. The pub was put up for sale last April by its owner, Punch Taverns.

In September the Red Lion was listed as an Asset of Community Value by East Devon District Council and as a result a moratorium on the sale of the pub to anyone, other than the campaigners, was introduced for 6 months. If the Red Lion is retained it will be the first community owned pub in East Devon.

Bike Blaze in Whipton

In the last few hours, fire crews have been called to put out a motorcycle fire in Whipton, Exeter.

The incident, which occurred at Summer Lane on Saturday evening, involved one vehicle being severely damaged in what is believed to be a deliberate attack.

One fire engine from Middlemoor station was sent out, and the crew extinguished flames using buckets of water. No injuries have been reported.

Devon Community Foundation launches Flood Fund

Following weeks of terrible weather and high rainfall there are many areas of Devon where people are suffering the consequences of flooding.

As the emergency services are gearing up to respond to another blast of bad weather which is predicted to make landfall in the Westcountry this weekend, there are many people displaced from their homes in need of immediate and longer term support.

Today Devon Community Foundation is launching its Devon Flood Fund appeal.

Train routes to Exeter blocked

The South West have experienced yet more damage due to stormy weather with Crewkerne being victim to a landslide.

The landslide, which was reported by Network Rail, means that popular routes in and out of Exeter ( including Exeter to Waterloo) are blocked.

Earlier in the week nearby town Dawlish was affected by the weather after waves destroyed the train line.

Bridgewater and Yeovil routes are also both currently blocked due to this weekend's landslide and continued bad weather.
