Local author shortlised for the Romantic Novel of the Year 2014

Local author Margaret James is one of the contenders shortlisted for the Romantic Novelists' Association's (RNA) most prestigious award - the Romantic Novel of the Year 2014. This year the overall winner of the Award will receive a cheque for £5000 in addition to a trophy to mark the occasion.

Exeter gym fundraiser for Hospiscare

Exeter Golf and Country Club gym members have raised over £100 for Hospiscare in the first of their year-long programme of fund-raising events.

Unexploded bombs found following the storms

Several wartime explosives have been spotted on the South West coast including in Braunton in Devon.

Thought to have been swept ashore or uncovered by the recent storms, three devices have been reported in Devon, Somerset and Dorset last weekend.

Police have asked that people stay away from any suspicious objects found on the coast due to the possibility of more explosives being found.

A developer is being sought for Queen’s Drive Leisure Area, the unique 9.3 acre seafront site in Exmouth.

This follows the outline planning approval obtained in December 2013 for the development of the site into a recreation and leisure zone.

Dawlish work delayed by two weeks

Network Rail will lay more concrete foundations in Dawlish today after additional damage to the sea wall caused by Friday' nights storm could delay the track’s restoration by up to two weeks. The track, initially damaged by storms at the beginning of February, was originally expected to be completed by mid-march. However this Friday saw the temporary flood defences, made of shipping containers filled with concrete, overwhelmed by the rising water. Man charged with GBH following Exeter Cathedral attack

A 34 year old man has been charged with GBH and criminal damage after attacking an elderly woman at Exeter Cathedral green on Saturday (15th February).

Police recieved reports that an eldery woman had been punched in the eye and was lying on the floor at 1.20pm on Saturday afternoon. The incident of assault was believed to have occured when the elderly woman questioned the man after he was seen climbing the outside of the Cathedral.

New community vehicle for Exe Valley Market Bus

The Exe Valley Market Bus committee will celebrate taking delivery of its brand new community bus at a formal launch event at Calverleigh Village Hall on Wednesday 19 February.
