More unexploded ordinance found in Devon

More unexploded bombs have been unearthed on the South West coast today during post-storm clear ups ongoing throughout the region. A device was found at Mount Batten Point in Turnchapel near Plymouth today marking the third device found on Devon’s beaches this month. The device was found at around 2:15pm this afternoon and reported to the police. Police, HM Coast guard and bomb disposal experts attended the scene. Funded traineeships offered to five Devon teens in Exeter

A Health & Social Care training centre is working in conjunction with Devon County Council to provide a unique opportunity for five young people from Devon to take up traineeships and earn apprenticeships with health and social care employers.

Venus Training & Consultancy has secured placements with some of the region’s leading healthcare employers in Exeter for five 16-18 year olds. Tragic death in Sidmouth after car collapses on man

A Sidmouth man in his 30s tragically died this weekend after a car he was working on collapsed onto him. Two crews of Firefighters from Sidmouth fire station were called to the man’s family home on Betjeman Close at around 6:30pm on Saturday evening. The crews found the man had already been released from the fallen car and gave CPR to the badly injured man. Fire crews then called for police assistance to take the man from the scene. A police helicopter arrived on scene at 7:30pm and airlifted the man to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A file is being...

Animated Exeter events success

Despite the horrendous weather, most of the Animated Exeter events taking place in the city over the past couple of weeks went ahead.

The Valentine's Day weekend saw the culmination of the first week of Animated Exeter with a fabulous light show on Fore Street, directed by Tal Rosner. Unfortunately, the show had to be cancelled on the Friday night due to the storms, but Saturday's performance was absolutely beautiful, with Fore Street being transformed into an interactive cinema, and people flocking to see the spectacle.

Insurance leaders will meet with Government Ministers today to discuss the industry’s response to the recent floods in the South West and Thames Valley at a Downing Street summit today.

Ministers are likely to call on the industry to ensure that floods claims are processed as soon as possible.

The 64 volunteer riders from emergency couriers Devon Freewheelers were over the moon when one of TV’s Emergency Bikers agreed to become the charity’s first patron.

Paramedic biker for the West Midlands Ambulance Service Mark Hayes, a familiar face to viewers of the Channel 5 series, took the decision to endorse the charity after visiting its headquarters and riding out with some of the team.

Devon Guild of Craftsmen have been awarded over £136,000 to support a tour of their exhibition and community project Home Ground, which explores the link between crafts, local industry and English football clubs.

The leading contemporary crafts organisation based in Bovey Tracey was one of 11 successful projects announced as part of Arts Council England's Strategic touring programme funded by the National Lottery. Local author Margaret James is one of the contenders shortlisted for the Romantic Novelists' Association's (RNA) most prestigious award - the Romantic Novel of the Year 2014. This year the overall winner of the Award will receive a cheque for £5000 in addition to a trophy to mark the occasion.

Exeter gym fundraiser for Hospiscare

Exeter Golf and Country Club gym members have raised over £100 for Hospiscare in the first of their year-long programme of fund-raising events.
