Exciting times ahead for Exmouth Rowing Club

The future is looking promising for Exmouth Rowing Club as they look to refurbish their new premises at the old lifeboat station on the seafront in Exmouth.

As part of East Devon District Council's regeneration of the seafront, the club has been able to relocate from their old premises, adjacent to the old lifeboat station. The old premises are currently in the process of being demolished as part of the regeneration of Queen’s Drive.

Deliberate fire results in two casualties

Two men have been treated for smoke inhalation after a fire was deliberately started in Chapel Street, Buckfastleigh, this morning.

Three appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, which took place at just after midnight this morning ( Sunday 23rd February).

Upon crews arrival there was found to be a small fire in the basement of a 2 storey building. Crews extinguished the fire using 2 breathing apparatus, 1 hose reel jet and one possitive pressure ventilation fan.

Cowley Hill in Cowley is closed in both directions between the St Andrew's Road junction and the Langford Road junction, because of a landslip and emergency repairs.

Diversion in operation - A3072 and A396 via Bickleigh.

Drivers are warned to expect congestion.

Nursing home rescue

Two appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire were called to Knappe Cross Nursing Home in Exmouth to rescue two people from its lift.

Crews attended the incident at 6.05 this morning ( Saturday 22nd February).

On arrival members of the Fire Service found two people stuck in a lift cage.

They were released from the lift cage with the use of small tools.

Fire Crews attend after fire at Tiverton pub

Fire crews were called to The Trout Inn, Tiverton, in the early hours of this morning due to a vehicle being on fire in the car park.

One appliance from Tiverton attended a car fire in the car park of the public house. The vehicle was well alight on their arrival and crews got to work using two breathing apparatus and two hosereel jets.

The vehicle was severely damaged.

The Police also attended and are now investigating the incident.

Adam Isaac joins Sleep Easy campaign

Sleep Easy, a sponsored sleep out event organised by local homelessness charity Exeter YMCA, last year attracted over 180 participants and raised over £30,000.

Adam worked with Exeter YMCA in the lead up to Sleep Easy 2013, even writing a song entitled Sleep Easy with the Exeter YMCA residents.

The song aimed to articulate the issues and prejudices experienced by the young residents who had gone through homelessness and it was debuted at the event itself.

11,500 potholes reported in two months

Devon County Council has almost tripled its number of road repair teams after 11,500 potholes are reported since the beginning of 2014. The number of reported potholes is unprecedented with a normal winter typically seeing only around 2,000 reported across the whole season. The Council has since brought in an extra 52 staff to carry out pothole repairs, bringing the number of teams up from 13 to 34 costing approximately £65,000 each week. Spate of burglaries targeting businesses

Police in Devon are appealing for information following a spate of burglaries targeting commercial properties. The burglaries occurred at commercial premises in both Mid and East Devon between Thursday 16th January and Friday 31st January and it is suspected that a stolen vehicle on false number plates was used during the raids. The vehicle, a Toyota 4x4 Hilux was stolen from a driveway of a property in Chevithorne near Tiverton on Monday 13th January.

Three East Devon Dsitrict Council employees got up early to help promote blood and organ donation in Axminster.

The trio from EDDC’s StreetScene team were helping Jo Seddon from NHS Blood and Transplant with a new campaign.

Dave Seal, Graham Trude and Jerry Preston were in the town centre at 6am hanging woollen blood drops in a tree.
