Valentine’s Day marked the beginning of the annual Nest Box Week, and bird lovers flocked to the Axe Estuary Wetlands near Seaton on Wednesday 19th Feb for ‘Give a bird a home’ – an opportunity to create a bespoke nest box.

Kits were prepared by East Devon District Council Countryside Rangers, who also gave advice on where to place the completed article for the best results.

Police are appealing for witnesses following two assaults in a Honiton pub. Police would like to speak with anyone who was in the Three Tunns on Saturday night (8 February 2014.) A 46-year-old man suffered slight bruising to both eyes in an assault at around 11.30pm inside the pub. Two men, a 20-year-old and an 18-year-old, were later arrested on suspicion of assault. They remain on police bail while enquiries continue. A 45-year-old woman also suffered slight injury after she was assaulted. The Government has pledged an extra £31.45m to bring superfast broadband to the South West today.

The Government hopes the extra money announced by Culture Secretary, Maria Miller, earlier today will help promote business start-ups and job creation in some of the hardest to reach rural areas in the South West.

Local projects in the South West will now receive additional funding from a £250m pot, with coming in addition to the £1.2bn already invested by central and local Government.

Work on to re-open the railway line could be completed earlier than expected, according to Network Rail. The work to repair the area of track destroyed during the recent heavy storms was initially expected to be completed by mid-March but was pushed back to mid-April after further storm damage frustrated repairs.
