Let there be light! Exeter Scientists urging us to Race for Life

This group of researchers from Devon are leading the way in transforming how cancers are detected and treated by harnessing the power of light.

The team, who receive funding through Cancer Research UK, are encouraging people to take part in Race for Life this summer and help fund more life-saving research.

Their innovative use of Raman Spectroscopy, which is based upon the interaction of light with the chemical bonds within a material, is forging a better understanding of treating cancers earlier.

Students at the Maynard School enjoyed a pre-Christmas treat when Victoria Holmes, creator and editor of the hugely popular Warriors series, hosted all day workshops and book signings in the library on Tuesday 1 December 2015.

The charity is launching Dryathlon for the New Year and urging people the region to sign up now before the festive season gets into full swing. Consumers are being urged to think before buying this year’s ‘must have’ for Christmas, a hoverboard, which could be at risk of catching fire or even exploding.

Children can get creative at Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park this December at a series of Christmas themed workshops run by the Creation Station.

Massive demand meant that tickets to TEDxExeter 2016 sold out faster than ever before on Tuesday.

Tickets for the live event at the Exeter Northcott Theatre sold out in 20 minutes, and tickets for the simultaneous livestream to the nearby Alumni Auditorium all went before the end of the day.

TEDxExeter is Exeter’s leading festival of ideas, and next year’s conference will be the fifth held in the city. It is also streamed online so that everyone who could not get tickets can still watch it live. Videos of all the talk will also be free to watch online after the event....

Seaton Jurassic recruitment day

A major new visitor attraction is planning to begin the job of recruiting its staff at a special recruitment open day being held in Seaton on Saturday 5th December.

The final phases of work are currently being made at the Seaton Jurassic visitor centre before its opening in spring 2016. The new visitor attraction, which is on Seaton’s Underfleet, will include both indoor and outdoor interpretation spaces as well as a café and retail area.

Woman found dead in East Devon

Police are investigating the death of a woman found in a vehicle in East Devon.

Following information received police attended the area of Fenny Bridges in East Devon at around 4pm on Wednesday 2nd December.

A woman’s body was found in a vehicle in this area.

She has yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be a 71-year-old local woman.

A forensic post mortem will be carried out later today.

Investigating and scene of crime officers will today continue an examination of a vehicle and the area in Fenny Bridges where it was discovered....
