Tesco to support children facing hunger during summer holidays

With almost a third [31%] of families in South West England worried about feeding their children during the school holidays*, shoppers in the area are being urged to support a campaign ensuring youngsters get nutritional food this summer.

As part of its Stronger Starts programme, Tesco stores in Devon are inviting customers to round up their bill to the nearest pound at the checkout during one week in July and another in August, with all funds being split between the food charities FareShare and the Trussell Trust.

The Birdhouse café in Exeter’s Pinces Gardens has soared to success since new management took over in April.

Visitors are flocking there to enjoy the delicious takeaway food and drink on offer, taking advantage of the longer opening hours.

The Exeter Classic Motorcycle’s 33rd AnnualCharity Run takes place on Sunday 28 July.

Starting from Exeter Quay, the run covers around 90 miles over Dartmoor before returning to the Quay for prize awards.

Funds raised are shared between the Lord Mayor of Exeter’s charity, which this year is FORCE Cancer charity, Okehampton Community & Recreation Association (OCRA) and Princetown Community Centre.

£1.7 million for new network to improve lives of people affected by dementia

Funding of more than £1.7million will enable researchers at the University of Exeter to set up and lead a new national Dementia Network Plus – one of only four in the country.
