Calling all budding Spielbergs, aspiring Coppolas, visionary Spike Lees and passionate storytellers in and across the South West!

The Schools 48 Hour Film Challenge UK is back, calling on schools in the region to get involved and compete nationally.

Now in its fourth year and set to be held from Friday 10th May, the challenge brings together students aged 7-18 years to unleash their creativity and filmmaking skills in a thrilling 48-hour challenge.

Exeter College links up with Food4Heroes to provide meals for NHS staff

Exeter College has offered its state-of-the-art industrial kitchen facilities to Food4Heroes; a charity that provides free nutritious meals to frontline NHS staff during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The College’s @34 training kitchens will now be in use providing nutritionally balanced, free meals to NHS staff. These meals will include a vegetarian and a meat option and allergens will be listed on the dishes provided. Meals will be distributed to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in microwavable containers for NHS staff to take.

PPE4Exeter Campaign Raises over £3,000 of £26,000 target in first weekend

A grassroots community project has raised an incredible £3000 in aid of their production of vital Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for community-based health and care workers in their first weekend. They are hoping to continue raising around £1000 a day to keep up with the demand for face shields in the local community.

Big rise in children applying for a primary school place in Devon

There has been a big increase in the number of Devon families applying for a primary school place this September.

Figures published today (Thursday 16 April) reveal that 7,580 applications were made across the county. That's 310 more than last year.

Despite the big jump in numbers, 98.3 per cent of families have been offered a place at one of their three preferred schools.

The new figures show that 94.6 per cent of the families who applied to Devon County Council for a place in a county primary have got their first preference.

Devon school staff on duty over Easter holidays to support key workers

Teachers and staff in nearly 170 Devon schools are working over the Easter holidays to provide care and support for the children of key workers.

The Government ordered schools across the country to close their doors a week early for Easter because of the coronavirus crisis but asked staff to remain open for the children of key workers such as NHS staff, care workers, delivery drivers and those in the food industry.
