NEW – Want to learn how to make Honiton Lace? Daphne, an experienced Honiton Lace teacher is considering starting a new lace class on a Tuesday afternoon in the Exwick area.

All are welcome as the class would be suitable for all levels from beginner to the more experienced.

Equipment can be supplied. Classes would be held during term time only.

A South Devon business which trains teachers to support the emotional and social development of children has welcomed a government announcement of new online resources for schools and colleges to boost mental health support for staff and pupils.

Thrive, based at Seale Hayne, near Newton Abbot, has welcomed news of grants worth more than £750,000 for the Diana Award, the Anti-Bullying Alliance and the Anne Frank Trust to help schools and colleges build relationships between pupils, boost their resilience, and continue to tackle bullying both in person and online.

In what was probably the final Ofsted inspection of a school before lockdown, school inspectors have confirmed that Colyton Grammar School has maintained its ‘Outstanding’ rating while praising its students, staff and wider school community.

Colyton Grammar School is a state school with 954 students who come from across Devon, Somerset and Dorset.

Deaf Awareness Week sees free sign language classes launched for thousands of families

Families across England will get the chance to learn British Sign Language in the comfort of their own homes with free online classes launched today (Friday, May 8th).

The series of classes will be run by the National Deaf Children’s Society every Friday for 12 weeks as part of its Family Sign Language programme. The date was picked to mark Deaf Awareness Week (May 4th-8th).
