“Big Night Out” raises over £4,500 for Exeter homelessness charity

On Friday 12th April, 18 intrepid people slept out to raise over £4,500 for St Petrock’s, Exeter’s local homelessness charity, as part of the charity’s first ever #BigNightOut.

The event, in which people were invited to “sleep rough” in their gardens, sheds, on sofas or in the countryside, aimed both to raise awareness of homelessness and the challenges faced by rough sleepers in Exeter, and to encourage people to give financially towards the cost of running the vital services St Petrock’s provides to help rough sleepers survive and find a way off the streets.

A fundraising evening organised by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes has raised £6,500 for The Exeter Foundation charity, with money raised going towards helping a range of charities and groups across the region.

Staff from the five star housebuilder together with suppliers and sub-contractors enjoyed a black tie evening at Sandy Park, the home of the Exeter Chiefs which included a presentation by Exeter Foundation chairman Tony Rowe and included a raffle, auction and fundraising casino.

Goodridge Ltd, who are based in Exeter, have helped the presenter of popular restoration show Wheeler Dealers, Mike Brewer, with a special charity project known as the #ClassicRumble.

Mike was challenged alongside fellow Wheeler Dealer and presenter of Channel 4’s For the Love of Cars, Ant Anstead to complete a restoration project for the charity of their choice by Lancaster Insurance in March, with each presenter hoping that their finished classic will achieve the highest bid when they are auctioned through Silverstone Auctions at the Classic Motor Show in November.

With just a week to go until the third Exeter Foundation evening with Michael Caines MBE, the menu and accompanying wine has been confirmed.

On Sunday 3 December, Exeter Deaf Academy student Sam Harris will take on the city’s Santa Run to raise money for his school with THREE generations of his family running alongside him.

David Thomas, the chief executive of five star housebuilder Barratt Homes, was on hand last week to lend his support to the company’s fundraising efforts for Wear it Pink Day.

The fundraiser, on Friday October 20, is part of Breast Cancer Now’s fundraising during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Exeter branch of RGB Building Supplies is hosting a charity breakfast morning in aid of Children’s Hospice South West on Friday 3rd November.

Taking place between 7.30am and 10.30am, those visiting the branch will be able to purchase a bacon roll with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the Children’s Hospice South West. Tea and coffee will also be available.
