The Exeter Dementia Action Alliance pay tribute to the genius artist, Tony Husband and celebrate 10 years of shining a light on dementia in the city

Monday saw the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance pay tribute to the incredible artist, Tony Husband. The alliance also took time to celebrate 10 years since it’s inception in 2014.

Heather Morris former Exeter City Councillor said: “I felt honoured to attend the 10 year anniversary of the alliance which began with the passion perseverance and vision of Gina Awad. The evening also celebrated the life of Tony Husband who died suddenly in October last year.

Hundreds of gifts donated to RGB's charity Christmas present appeal

RGB Building Supplies is thanking the Exeter community for donating gifts to its 2017 Christmas Present Appeal. All presents have now been given to Children’s Hospice South West to pass on to the children and families it supports.

Following a call out inviting customers and the local community to donate gifts suitable for a child of any age or their parents, over 300 gifts were placed under Christmas trees in RGB branches.

Macmillan gives over £124,800 to keep Devon cancer patients above the breadline

Macmillan Cancer Support has revealed that in 2016 it gave out grants totalling approximately £124,8001, to Devon residents who were struggling with the financial hardship that cancer can bring. Across the south west region, the charity provided just over £849,3001 in grants to help keep cancer patients financially afloat last year. With hundreds of Devon cancer patients relying on charity handouts to stay above the breadline, Macmillan Cancer Support is calling on the Government to change the law to ensure banks do more to ‘play their part’ as the financial crisis for cancer patients...

Stagecoach SW supports Charity Christmas Jumper Day

Stagecoach South West has announced that it is participating in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day fundraising event on 15 December.

Staff from across Devon will be joining thousands of people around the country as they don festive jumpers and help ‘make the world better with a sweater’.

Everyone participating is asked to donate a minimum of £2 to the charity with funds raised going towards providing essential healthcare, protection, education and food to millions of children around the world.

SWASFT raise over £20,000 for Young Lives vs Cancer

The staff from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has been supporting CLIC Sargent since 2008 raising £23,927.52 for young lives vs cancer through the Pennies from Heaven Scheme.

Over 4000 members of staff from the trust took part in the Pennies from Heaven Scheme, which meant that their wages were rounded down to the nearest pound with the pennies being donated to CLIC Sargent. CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading provider of support for young cancer patients under the age of 25, and their families.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is hosting a Christmas event to help raise funds for the charity – which is the chosen charity of Princesshay for 2017 – with a host of fun events and entertainment on Friday 15 December.

Shoppers can enjoy some fantastic festive entertainment including:

Charity celebrates success with fundraising ball

GLITZ and glamour were the order of the day, when local charity, Hollywell Housing Trust, celebrated their third birthday and thanked their supporters by throwing a festive fundraising ball.

Staff and volunteers from the British Heart Foundation were joined by some special helpers from St Michael’s Church of England Primary Academy and law firm Michelmores to decorate one of the 35 Christmas trees donated to charities for the Charity Christmas Tree Festival in Roman Walk, Exeter. Christmas is a time of year when we all get involved with certain traditions. Hanging the mistletoe, brussels sprouts, mince pies, Christmas trees, office parties, so the list goes on…. And it’s no different for retired police officer Barry Frost, 59, from Exeter. However one of Barry’s festive traditions is a tad more unusual than most.
