Let there be light! Exeter Scientists urging us to Race for Life

This group of researchers from Devon are leading the way in transforming how cancers are detected and treated by harnessing the power of light.

The team, who receive funding through Cancer Research UK, are encouraging people to take part in Race for Life this summer and help fund more life-saving research.

Their innovative use of Raman Spectroscopy, which is based upon the interaction of light with the chemical bonds within a material, is forging a better understanding of treating cancers earlier.

ISCA Recruitment, an independent recruitment consultancy based in Devon, made a company donation of £100 following one of the team’s sudden and unexpected loss of her father. Local foodservice provider raises over £1,800 for Devon charity

Last month, Bidfood’s depot in Devon donated £1,820.33 to the local charity Call South West, to help them support children and adults with communication difficulties.

The Devon depot has supported Call South West for the last two years, so far donating over £4,500 from a variety of fundraising activities. These activities included: sponsored bike rides and walks along the South West Coast Path, a ‘Calendar Girls’ style 2018 employee calendar, as well as cake sales and raffles..

Families for Children, Chief Executive Caroline Davis, OBE, has received a Lifetime Achievement award for her services to children and adoption in the South West. Hundreds of men braved the plunging temperatures and snow flurries on Saturday to step it out in Hospiscare’s Men’s Walk 2018. Some 900 men – 250 more than last year – signed up for the challenge, making it Hospiscare’s most successful Men’s Walk ever.

A group of six first-year theology students from the University of Exeter are set to play against eight celebrities, led by Robbie Savage to raise money for Sport Relief.

The public can watch the team play Friday 23 March from 7.30pm on BBC 1, or listen on BBC 5 Live.

Late night winter runs in the blistering cold and freezing rain couldn’t stop Jack Warne, 28, from Willand, who was determined to run the Bideford Half Marathon in aid of The Wave Project.

Jack, who grew up in Devon and recently graduated from Exeter University, now works as Marketing Executive for QuayClick, a digital marketing agency based on the Quay in Exeter. Charity auction to fix a leaky school roof in Mumbai

A Charity Auction will be held on 17th April at The Canopy in South Street, Exeter to raise money to fix the roof of a school for children living in the slums of Mumbai.

In October of last year Daniel Hiller, director of Vision ICT, worked with SlumAid and volunteered at a school in Sion, South Mumbai which was set up by the local charity Lok Seva Sangam (LSS).
