How the right underwear can help you feel empowered

Often, underwear is seen as a practical choice and as an afterthought. No one sees it in your day-to-day life as it is hidden beneath layers of other clothing. But underwear can be the key to boosting your confidence and help empower you to tackle the day.

Let’s dive into the world of empowering lingerie and how to use it to enhance your self-image.

Feeling confident whilst comfortable

The wrong underwear can be a distraction throughout the day, so finding pieces that are comfortable as well as beautiful is important.

Feeling confident in your own skin...

You arrive at the University of Exeter and there’s one trip everyone wants to make as soon as possible – a day out in Exmouth. However, trust me when I say that there’s a better beach to visit.

Yes, okay, one of the main reasons I chose Exeter was so I would be in closer proximity to the sea. I’d lived eighteen long years of my life in landlocked Birmingham and had been teased by family holidays and my time spent in Bangor, Northern Ireland, to live closer to the waves. They’re just so peaceful and pretty and… You get the idea.

Whether your find the sea as magical as I do,...

Gemma - A Woman on a Mission

Gemma marched into the hospice reception yesterday.

It was a definite march, not an amble or a saunter, a march like soldier with the air of “let’s crack on and get things done.” Having last seen her in March I was expecting a warm greeting and a good long catch up – no chance.

This was a woman on a mission.

Gemma is our miracle Hospiscare patient who is much loved by staff and volunteers. Despite being diagnosed with a brain tumour six years ago Gemma is still with us, but as a volunteer fundraiser rather than a patient. The chemotherapy worked!

During her...

Media frenzy in Honiton!

Standing on a chair taking pictures is not ideal, but when the local newspaper photographers turn out in force to an official event its best you give them the front row.

A media frenzy in Devon, well yes, sort of. Press photographers were eagerly snapping Exeter’s sporting heroine Jo Pavey as she opened our new £1.2m day hospice in Honiton.

Flashbulbs were going off like crazy, watched by patients, supporters and staff who loved being part of the action. Being the Hospiscare press officer is more than balancing on a chair taking photographs, I also had to balance a pad and...

If you’re not a football fan, that doesn’t matter. Keep reading.

Exeter City faced Crawley Town on Saturday in a tense game that Exeter looked to be winning 2 – 1 until the final minutes of play when Crawley managed to squeeze in an extra goal, leaving players and fans devastated at the 2 – 2 draw. Theoretically, Exeter should have won. However, from the perspective of the live crowd it was clear that Crawley deserved their equaliser; it was a miracle they hadn’t scored their second goal earlier.

Football fan or not, a trip to St James’ Park is essential for any student...

Fun in the sun!

Sunshine, palm trees, balmy temperatures. Aah the South of France.

Yes, finally Hospiscare has gone international!

Oh dear, sorry folks not quite. Businessman Neil Chapman was showing me glamorous pictures of the Cannes Tennis Tournament which he’s been organising for the past 10 years. It’s a bit of fun and raises funds for charities, like us.

Neil develops and leases outlet centres across Europe and every year he joins thousands of developers, retailers and agents who attend the MAPIC International Retail Property Market Conference in Cannes.

Last year’s...

Blog: Pilgrims in the Way

It is estimated that over 250 million people make pilgrimage every year across the world. Whether from Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, Jewish or other traditions (or none), women, men and children set out to journey towards a special place, with the most popular destinations including Mecca, Jerusalem, Santiago de Compostela, Bodh Gaya, Amritsar and the Ganges and Jordan rivers.

Pilgrims use the travelling (traditionally made on foot or by animal) as a time of reviewing themselves and their beliefs, to reconnect with the natural rhythms of life, to meet others and to refresh their...

Letter from Devon County Council Chairman

The Royal British Legion Poppy Day is on 8th November.

We all know how much and how many depend on The Royal British Legion and a successful Poppy Day Appeal. The need for help is still as great as ever and we need to show our support for all members of the Armed Forces, retired members and their families.

Devon has always given generously. I am confident this year we will all “wear our Poppy with pride” – and with thankfulness.

Yours faithfully

Councillor Christine Channon

Chairman, Devon County Council

A welcoming lady who works in Hyde + Seek was telling me about how very few students find the quirky little shop during their first year of university as it is tucked away off the main high street. As she was saying this I realised – that’s exactly me. Now in my second year, I have only just discovered what I am sure will become one of my favourite shops in Exeter.

Hyde + Seek is the ultimate gift shop – I challenge anyone to find a better place in Exeter to buy your friends and family their birthday and Christmas presents. For £7.95 you can buy a book with a seemingly endless...

One of the most brilliant things about Exeter is its openness to vegetarians and vegans. Now, I’m not saying it’s completely open and there are no harsh judgements, however in comparison to some of the other cities in the UK that I’ve visited, Exeter is far from the worst.

In fact, there’s a lovely little vegetarian and vegan café in the Cathedral yard called The Plant Café. I visited there once before for a chai latte and a slice of carrot cake but was keen to return and try the famous vegan chocolate cake. I should make this clear now, I’m a vegetarian, not vegan, yet was eager...

University lecturers never seem to stop talking about the RAMM and for everyone’s first term of university, it’s commonly mistaken for the Ram pub on campus (not quite the same thing). Although both Ram(m)s are claimed to be great, this week I decided to get a little cultural and check out the Royal Albert Memorial Museum.

Having done practically no research, I had no idea what to expect – not being a huge fan of museums, this made the day a little more exciting. All I knew was it stayed open Tuesday – Sunday for free to the public. Fantastic. It’s far more enticing to go to a...
