For the final concerts of the 2016 season, 17-19 November, Concerts in the West is delighted to welcome an exceptional musical combination - the brilliant flautist Emma Halnan and her long term accompanist Daniel King Smith, with whom she has been playing since 2008.

Emma Halnan first hit the spotlight in 2010 when she won the woodwind category of the BBC's Young Musician of the Year. She followed this auspicious start by being broadcast on BBC Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night as soloist with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Since then she has appeared as concerto soloist with the European Union Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players and the Welsh Sinfonia. This year she has won the Sir Karl Jenkins/Arts Club Classical Music Award in association with Classic FM. Emma is currently principal flute of the European Union Youth Orchestra and recently performed as guest principal of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Daniel King Smith is a highly regarded solo pianist and accompanist who has performed extensively around the UK and Europe. He has featured on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Ulster and won prizes for his chamber music as well as his all-round musical ability at the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied.

Catherine Hodgson, founder and director of Concerts in the West, said:

"We've had some wonderful concerts this year and I am pleased to say that our performers have all been extremely well received. It is most encouraging to have such loyal audiences and without them we couldn't continue to offer such a wide range of quality music. Yet we are also attracting new listeners who have complimented us on our programmes, which is most reassuring, as feedback is greatly appreciated.

"Emma and Daniel are the perfect musical pairing with which to round off this year's concerts - they are both such gifted performers and a joy to listen to. I would like to thank them, as well as all our other musicians, for giving their time and their talent to West Country audiences."
