Only one day to go until the beginning of Dartmouth Food Festival (Friday 24th to Sunday 26th October), the foodies festival of choice. Guaranteed to be hugely gastronomic and a tasty weekend for all, world renowned chefs, wine experts and food writers will all be descending on Dartmouth from tomorrow.

With a new venue, new sponsor and abundance of exciting new speakers, Dartmouth Food Festival’s Eat Your Words is certain to be one of the many highlights of this year’s festival. Eat Your Words is a series of informative, light hearted and extremely fun talks and discussions from a vast array of nationally renowned and international speakers. Festival Sponsor, Favis of Salcombe’s Tom Bunn and highly esteemed fish chef extraordinaire and festival advocate, Mitch Tonks’ talk is set to be one of the most popular talks of the weekend. During what is guaranteed to be a ‘cracking’ talk, Tom and Mitch will be discussing all aspects of the UK crab industry with a selection of tantalising tasters (Friday 24th, 11.30am). Eat Your Words will launch at 11:00am on Friday with a discussion between festival director, David Jones and Totnes MP, Dr Sarah Wollaston. During their talk they will cover the current food issues facing government. Due to the generous sponsorship of Corinium Care, entry to the Eat Your Words sessions in the Flavel Church is now FREE (spaces are limited so please call Helen Lloyd on 07794 521194 to book).

Joel Harrison, one half of the charismatic Caskstrength Creative duo, will be hosting an entertaining talk and tasting on all things spirits and booze. Joel’s recent book, DISTILLED, co-written with Neil Ridley, uncovers the best artisan spirits from across the world, some of which will be sampled during Joel’s talk (Saturday 25th, 1.30pm). Eat Your Words is championed by writer and TV presenter, Lucy Siegle, a regular contributor to The Guardian and the BBC’s One Show.

Festival director David Jones, co-owner of Manna from Devon Cooking School, comments: “It’s certainly all going to be happening this weekend in Dartmouth! We have a fantastic line-up of chefs conducting demonstrations including top chef Mark Hix and Benjamin Palmer from the newly revamped Glazebrook House Hotel, enlightening and educational wine seminars, hands-on workshops and of course over a hundred passionate producers and their fabulous products to sample and buy.” David continues: “The Dartmouth Food Festival committee has worked so hard throughout the year to make this year’s festival the best yet and we’re all thoroughly looking forward to the start of the festival tomorrow.”

Back by popular demand, Susy Atkins will once again be leading the festival’s fantastic drinks’ programme. Famed for her appearances on BBC1’s ‘Saturday Kitchen’ as a regular wine expert, Susy will be joined by an outstanding line up of prominent drinks’ experts in Browns Hotel. In recent years the festival has also gained a reputation for attracting some of the region’s best chefs. With free cookery demonstrations on throughout all three days, crowds are sure to be impressed with the flair and talent of the chefs whilst gathering some invaluable top tips. James Ramsden, Romy Gill, Simon Hulstone, Richard Hunt and Stuart Downie are just some of those attending.
