Maggie Scorer, who in March set off on a 5000- mile ‘Dog on Tour’ cycling challenge around the UK coast with her faithful companion, eight-year-old golden retriever Oscar, is now on the last leg of her journey.

Maggie has spent nearly 150 days and approximately 4500 miles cycling to raise £25,000 for Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal charity and blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

They began their journey in Suffolk and travelled northwards along the east coast, anti-clockwise, and hit a mile stone by reaching Lands Ends last week.

The pair arrived in Exeter yesterday (Wednesday 5 August), but were back on the road this morning, heading for Honiton. They will then continue eastwards on their way back to Suffolk.

Maggie said: “We have had a massive adventure! Oscar continues to be in fine fettle and has had some lovely walks week plus his swims in the sea.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me, come out to cheer Oscar and me on and kindly provided us with a place to stay– it has been brilliant and certainly keeps me pedalling on to the end!

“I think it is fair to say that we are both now looking forward to getting back home but need to stay focused for the remaining five weeks!”

Carolyn Bray, Fundraising Manager at Sands, said: “For Maggie and Oscar to take on this mammoth challenge for both charities is amazing. We cannot thank them enough for what they have done so far and wish them all the best the last part of their journey.”

Caitlin O’Neill, Fundraising Manager at Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, said: “Our fundraisers constantly inspire us with their grit and determination to take on such tough challenges, and Maggie has certainly pushed herself to the limit with this epic fundraiser. We are incredibly grateful for her support and hope she & Oscar enjoy the last leg of their epic cycle before a well-deserved homecoming celebration.”

Maggie is expected to arrive back home in Aldeburgh Suffolk at the beginning of September.
