Students from across the UK are being offered the chance to win up to £2,000 for getting their friends signed up to a brand new social media network.

Flippie, a platform set to rival the likes of Facebook and LinkedIn will launch in fresher’s weeks across the country this September.

And the graduate behind the system is giving away £1,000 to the university student who gets the most sign ups in the week.

Kieran Roper will also hand out a further £1,000 to the individual who shows the most entrepreneurial spirit in attracting interest.

Students from all over the country will be battling it out to put their university at the top of the leaderboard – and the winner will also enjoy a student night courtesy of Flippie for them and their friends who have signed up.

Roper, pegged as the UK’s answer to Mark Zuckerberg, came up with the idea for the website while studying for a degree in interior design and architecture at Bournemouth University.

He said: “I took a placement year in Miami and filled my Facebook feed with pictures of me having fun.

“Then I realised I didn’t want to give off the wrong impression to prospective employers – all of which check out social media these days before considering hiring someone.

“I saw a gap for a site where you could speak to people instantly but in different capacities.”

He added: “Flippie allows users to seamlessly flip between two online profiles – a work and a play mode – on a single screen.

“It’s a bit like having all the best bits of existing social media sites in one place.”

The system will have the capability to store unlimited images and videos like Instagram, display status updates and share information like Facebook and allow for real-time interaction like Twitter and Snapchat.

In addition it will also provide a unique platform for job advertisements connected to a CV forum similar to LinkedIn.

This will allow employers to post job adverts, hold video-link interviews and access conference calling facilities – something that has already piqued the interest of recruitment firms across the UK.

Students who wish to take part in the competition are asked to fill in their details at http://www.flippie.com/university-challenge/ to be in with a chance of winning the star prize.

Those chosen to take part in the competition will be sent a Team Flippie pack which will include the rules of the competition, merchandise to assist them and a unique code they must use in conjunction with getting sign ups.

The competition will take place for a week from Monday 21st September until Sunday 27th September.
