An Exeter School Royal Air Force cadet has been awarded the Jack Sadler Award for outstanding contribution to the Combined Cadet Force Contingent (CCF).

Flt Sgt Finley Haddican of the RAF Section was presented with the brass trophy of an artillery shell case and an engraved medal by Contingent Commander, Commander Dr Geoff Chapman Royal Navy, during a CCF parade on Friday 17 March.

The Jack Sadler Award is made annually in memory of former pupil and trooper Jack Sadler who was tragically killed in Afghanistan.

Commander Chapman said: "Jack was a popular and respected senior member of the Army Section who was very much viewed as a soldier's soldier.

"This is the most prestigious award made by the Contingent and recognises excellence in the recipients, service and commitment to the CCF.

"Flt Sgt Finley Haddican has been a thoroughly dedicated member of the section who has always set and maintained the highest standards in all he does.

Always willing to volunteer and help run activities, he has been very efficient and can be relied upon to get the job done. He is a most deserving recipient and I have been most pleased to see how he has developed and risen to the challenges of the role of senior RAF cadet which he has performed extremely well.

Finley said he had learnt a lot and given his best to the RAF Section.

"To be made Head of Section was an honour," he said. "To receive this prestigious award is the icing on the cake and I am grateful for all the experiences I have had during my time as a cadet at Exeter School."
