Sportshall indoor athletics is back in Exeter

Sportshall, the popular and successful program of indoor athletics which teaches and improves children core sporting skills is back in Exeter.

Running at Clifton Hill Sports Centre on selected Sunday afternoons between October 2014 and March 2015, children and their families can enjoy throwing nerf howlers and light up glitter shot balls, trying their hand at long jump and triple jump, or joining in the fun of relays and hurdles.

Award winning Exeter based South West Athletics Academy will be running sessions on Sunday 2 November 2.30 – 4pm, Sunday 7 December 2.30 – 4pm, Sunday 11 January 2.30 – 4pm, Sunday 8 February 12.30 – 2pm, Sunday 8th March 2.30 – 4pm.

These monthly Sportshall sessions are hugely popular with children between the ages of four and 14. Sessions are led by qualified coaches and are designed to be fun and inclusive, with eye catching, specialised equipment. During each event children try to better their own personal records in as many of the activities as they like and then compete in teams during mini competitions and races, with badges and certificates for prizes.

Sonya Ellis, Director of Coaching at the Academy said “Sportshall is a fantastic way for children to experience lots of different athletics activities under one roof. What we teach are core sporting skills that enhance any sports that children might enjoy.

The light up glitter shot puts, turbo javelins, and speed bounce are always popular and we encourage as much cheering as the children can manage. It is also just such a popular way for young children to be introduced to athletics. It’s exciting and fun and because we work in small groups, everybody feels comfortable joining in”.
