Preview: Tranmere Rovers v Exeter City

Saturday’s trip to Prenton Park pits master versus apprentice, as Rob Edwards and Paul Tisdale stand in opposing dugouts for the first time.

Edwards, formerly Tis’s number 2 at St James Park, left for Tranmere in the summer and has since appointed former players Alex Russell and Matt Gill as first-team coach and assistant manager respectively.

Eliot Richards, who was loaned to Exeter from Bristol Rovers last season, was signed by Tranmere during the off-season too.

For Exeter, it is a chance to record back-to-back wins in League 2 for the first time this year following a midweek victory against Cambridge United.

Meanwhile Rovers are hoping to get back to winning ways.  They beat Wycombe and Morecambe – two of League 2’s early front-runners – back in August, but are now winless in three and have played out goalless draws in their last two outings.

City have been beaten on their last seven trips to Prenton Park – their most recent victory on the Wirral came back in 1986, when Jim McNichol’s sole strike made the difference.
