South West Road Runners have been awarded Exeter’s Great West Run prestigious Running Club Award, after a fantastic performance by its top performing male and female club runners on race day.

The award recognises the best overall club performance, combining the top two male and top two female fastest finishing times. James Reeves, Michael Lesniak, Laura Swanton and Karen Cook, who finished an impressive thirty six minutes ahead of the next placed team.

As well as the accolade of receiving the Running Club Award, were also awarded £250, which they have kindly chosen to donate to Devon Air Ambulance.

Jamie Warren, Head of Marketing and Commercial, said: “Congratulations to all the South West Road Runners that took part in the event! We recognise the importance of running clubs across all of our races, not only to help develop the events with our Club of the Year programme, but also to ensure we have a good calibre of professional and club athletes running on the day. South West Road Runners have set a great example of both team spirit, and competitive determination. We hope to see even more of them back again next year!”

Richard Everson, Chairman for South West Road Runners, said: “South West Road Runners is delighted to have won this Club Award at our “local” race.  This award shows the strength of running in Exeter, while the depth is illustrated by the fact that we had over fifty five runners in the race!”

2,697 runners took to the start line of the 13.1 mile race, cheered on by thousands of locals who lined the streets to show their support. If you feel inspired by this year’s race, pre-registration is now open for the 2015 race at www.thegreatwestrun.co.uk where you can sign up to be first to hear when entries open.
