Exeter Street Food’s weekly market at the Guildhall Shopping Centre has been so successful that organisers have decided to expand to Exeter Quay.

Lyndsey Terrell, Events Manager at Exeter Street Food said: “The Quay was the obvious choice. After living in Exeter for many years you see how integral it is to Exeter’s recreational activities.

“The Quay is also significant as it was the old fish market; and lovely that such a modern concept as ‘The Street Food Revolution’ ties in with the history of the venue."

The street food market has an impressive line up of different cuisines of street food to look forward too, including Spanish, American, Egyptian, Persian, Vietnamese, Locally Reared, African, Sustainable Fish, Caribbean and more. Everything you could want from a Philly cheese streak to fresh calamari! There are also lots of vegetarian options too.

Trader Dan Wagner, from Dan’s American Kitchen, said: “We can’t wait to bring the buzz and theatre of street food to one of Exeter’s Iconic locations.”

A large emphasis has been put on local independent businesses; local businesses/ the local economy benefits though the market. It can also help the ‘dinning out’ budget considering a family of four can eat restaurant quality food from under £25. Dishes vary in price from £3-£7 per dish.

There will also be relaxed live music vibe, where they will be showcasing talent from Exeter including local musicians Alex Gregory and David Waller.

The night market will be running from 5.30pm-9.30pm, allowing people to pop down after work.

The organisers say that they have started it early enough to allow families with younger children to come down and eat before bedtimes.
Exeter City Council has voiced their support for the market.

"We are really pleased to support this market. Exeter Street Food have proved that they can stage markets very successfully and we hope that this venture will be a valuable addition the city's markets programme and another boost to the ever improving Quayside," said David Lewis, Events and Facilities Manager for Exeter City Council.

Karen, MD and founder of Exeter Street Food, explains: “Exeter City Council have always been a great supporter of the market, we cannot express our gratitude as a growing business.”

Exeter Street food is working with local businesses around the quay, which have been very supportive of the idea, keeping in mind that it will hopefully be a useful tool for extra footfall generator.

Mark, proprietor of The Prospect Inn on the Quayside, says: “Anything that brings more people to The Quay, raises the profile and encourages visitors all year round rather than just when the sun shines is all good with us.”

The first night market is at Exeter Quay on Thursday 4 September between 5.30pm and 9.30pm.
