Public consultation event on future of South Street
A public consultation event on the future of South Street and the surrounding area is being held in Exeter later this month.
The event will be held at the Corn Exchange, in Market Street, on Wednesday, January 25, from 8am to 8pm.
All are welcome to attend the event at any point during the day to talk to councillors and council officers about what they like to see in the area, and to make their views known. Refreshments will be available.
The West Quarter is a hub of independent business and creative activity and an important part of what makes Exeter great.
But understandably people may ask what plans Exeter City Council might have for this area, when other parts of the city are seeing such significant investment.
The council is exploring the potential for future investment in South Street and the Corn Exchange.
A review is being carried out and the authority is working with local businesses, residents and the wider public to explore all the options.
It could be a new entertainment venue, the development of new retail and leisure units or public space improvements and landscaping.
The review will outline those choices in greater detail.
Cllr Rosie Denham, the city council’s lead councillor for Economy, said: “We are holding this event to find out from local businesses, residents, members of the public and visitors to Exeter what they think about South Street and the wider West Quarter of Exeter, about what is there now and what they what they would like to see in the future.
“We know there are great things about the area, but there are also lots of things that we would like to improve, and we would like to hear the thoughts of businesses and the public on what they would like to see.”
