Exeter's Conservative prospective MP delivered an upbeat message to the Prime Minister during his visit to the city.

Dom Morris spoke to the PM about Exeter's economic recovery, the crisis in Iraq as well as highlighting some issues closer to home.

The Prime Minister made the visit after announcing a major extension of a flagship national scheme to get truanting children back to school, adults into work and antisocial behaviour under control.

In addition to the emphasis on family friendly policies, Dom was keen to highlight to the Prime Minister the conservative-led economic recovery in the city.

Exeter’s unemployment has fallen by 45%, and Youth unemployment by 65% since the Conservative-led government took office.

Dom said: “Whilst things are still tough, Exeter’s recovery shows the strength of this city as it leads the South West’s resurgence. Jobs are being created, businesses started and companies relocating here because they see the value of doing business in Exeter.

"I was very pleased to meet the Prime Minister in Exeter to discuss the region and city’s economic recovery. We should be proud of our recovery and excited about the city’s prospects.”

Dom also highlighted his concerns over the damp crisis in over 300 City Council homes to the Prime Minister. Dom hopes that Labour City Councillors will declare an emergency so that the estimated £2.5m of work could start this year, rather than delaying until next year and allowing the damp to return.

The Prime Minister had read Dom’s recent article on the crisis in Iraq and the two discussed the causes of the crisis and the need for a lasting, political solution.
