Princesshay receives national recognition for refurbished toilets

Princesshay has been awarded the highest grade, Platinum, in the national Loo of the Year awards for its recently upgraded toilets in Catherine Square and St Stephen’s House.

Princesshay invested £500,000 in the refurbishment of these toilets last year which include male and female toilets, two family / gender neutral toilets as well as the only Changing Places toilet in the city centre, inside St Stephen’s House, providing extra equipment and space for anyone with a disability. A new, purpose-built parent and baby facility, also located in St Stephen’s House, was also created last year and comprises a changing station and washing facilities.

Michelle Menezes, Princesshay Centre Manager, says, “We are proud that our newly refurbished facilities have been honoured with such a prestigious award. The refurbishment and upgrade to all our facilities last year ensure that we can cater for a range of users and provide an essential facility for many people with disabilities visiting Exeter city centre. I would like to particularly thank the Princesshay cleaning team for their hard work at keeping our facilities spotless.”

The toilets cost 20p to use with the exception of the accessible toilet and the Changing Places toilet which are free for customers with disabilities. The toilets are open from 7am – 7pm.

Every entry receives an unannounced visitor from a Loo of the Year inspector and is assessed against stringent judging criteria including signage and décor, fixtures and fittings and overall standards of cleanliness and management. Thousands of toilets were judged at the end of last year, receiving a grading from Bronze to Platinum.
