Customers of Exeter's The Real Food Store and Pickle Shack pop-up restaurant regulars were indulged with three courses of local fare following the successful collaboration of the two businesses.

The Real Food Store is a community owned store and cafe consisting of over 300 members, staff and board members.

The store was set-up by enthusiastic food lovers who upheld values of sustainability, locality and seasonality, ideals which mirror those of Michelin trained chef and founder of Pickle Shack, Josh McDonald-Johnson.

Pickle Shack, a creative catering and events company based in Feniton, aim to source at least 80 per cent of the ingredients they use from within a 25 mile radius of the host venue, so teaming up with fellow champion of local food, The Real Food Store, was logical.

Oyster mushrooms from the Exeter Urban Farm, rare-breed pork from the Rusty Pig, Ottery St Mary and vegetables from Fresh and Green, Venn Ottery all featured on Saturday evening's menu.

Josh explained "supporting local farmers, fishermen, gardeners and artisan suppliers is crucial in nurturing supply chains and maintaining Devon's excellent and flourishing food-scene. Our pop-up restaurants aim to showcase the fantastic produce that is on our doorstep and encourage others to support sustainable eating"

Store Manager at the Real Food Store, Natalie Ohlson, commented: "The evening was a roaring success. Diners left with full stomachs, smiles on their faces and freshly acquired knowledge about some great local suppliers. I hope we can do it again soon, it was fun to incorporate a pop-up restaurant on our busy calendar of events."
