Clyst St Mary Primary School children made a very special visit to Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park’s pumpkin field on Friday last week (3 October).

Mrs Herbert and her Year 2 class were transported by tractor and trailer to a secret location where 22,000 pumpkins scatter the East Devon countryside.

Chris Down, Managing Director of Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park held the pupils’ morning lesson in one of his farm’s working fields.  He described the pumpkin growing process to the children in detail, from planting the pumpkins seeds through to harvesting the crop, for the popular autumn event of Halloween.

Each child carefully selected their own pumpkin from the field to take away with them, along with the knowledge of pumpkin growing and the importance of local farming and harvesting.

Mrs Herbert, Year 2 teacher at Clyst St Mary Primary School said: “The visit to the pumpkin field has been a real treat for me and the children. The class thoroughly enjoyed Chris Down’s talk about how the pumpkins are grown and we’d like to thank Chris and the Crealy team for the time they have spent with us. Several students from my class described our visit as the best school trip ever!”

Chris Down, Managing Director of Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park said: “It was a pleasure to have the pupils of Clyst St Mary Primary School visit our pumpkin field again this year.  It is a great opportunity for them to learn about their local area and its farming community, as well as the exciting things happening at Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park around Halloween.”

Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park will be kick starting its Halloween festivities this half term with a selection of ‘spooktacular’ activities and events.
