As part of Dyslexia Awareness Week 2015, Tom McLaughlin, children’s author and illustrator will be hosting a story time session at Waterstones in Exeter (High Street branch).

Tom will be showcasing showcasing two of his children’s books by Bloomsbury Publishing, as well as sharing his own personal experiences of dyslexia on Monday 5 October.

At the story session, Tom, who is local to Exeter, will be reading from The Story Machine and The Cloudspotter.

The Cloudspotter tells the story of a young boy called Franklin, but everyone calls him The Cloudspotter. He doesn’t have many friends and spends all his time alone having adventures in the sky. One day, an unexpected visitor appears in his adventures and forces The Cloudspotter to consider if it is possible that two cloudspotters could be better than one.

The Story Machine tells the story of Elliott, a boy who likes finding things. One day Elliott finds a machine and despite not being sure how it works at first, he discovers it makes letter. Elliott struggles with letters and words so seeks out a way to make magic stories without them.

This free event starts at 11am and is open to public, while an earlier private session will be taking place with a local school. After the story time session and a short q&a, visitors will be able to purchase Tom’s books and have them signed.

We hope that you will be able to join us for this special event as part of Dyslexia Awareness Week 2015 and help us celebrate the achievements of a brilliant dyslexic author.

Ten per cent of the population is estimated to be dyslexic, four per cent severely so. Many people with dyslexia, whether adults or children, are unable  o fulfil their potential as a large percentage of the population don't understand what dyslexia is and how to support those with it. The vision of the BDA is to create a dyslexia friendly society that listens to and supports people with dyslexia.
