Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg will relay public questions to the Chief Constable at a ‘new look’ performance and accountability meeting this week.

It will take place on Wednesday (24 September) at Devon County Council headquarters in Exeter (2pm).

The meeting is open to the public and will be webcast live on the internet. Local residents are expected to attend in person to hear their questions answered by Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer and other senior officers.

“I receive an enormous amount of correspondence, and some of this concerns detailed operational policing”, said Mr Hogg

“I have ‘redesigned’ these police force performance meetings so that I can represent the public in questioning the Chief Constable.

“I welcome the opportunity to do so, and the Chief Constable is also keen to address the issues that really matter to local residents

“There will be no subjects that we steer clear of. The questions will accurately reflect my mailbag.”

The initial topics are:

  • Neighbour disputes
  • Parking
  • 20 mph limits
  • Roads policing
  • Poaching
  • Drunkenness
  • Travellers
  • Parish Council support
  • Cross-border crime
  • Neighbourhood watch

This will now be a regular part of future Performance and Accountability meetings which are also staged in Truro and Plymouth, and webcast live.

“I am keen to increase ways in which local residents can talk to us, and make their views known about local policing.” said Mr Hogg

“This is a key part of my role as Police and Crime Commissioner.”

In addition to the meeting being webcast live, the answers to public questions will also be available to view later on the Police and Crime Commissioner’s website.
