Atass crowned Exeter Business Games 2013 Champions

The Atass Group were crowned 2013 champions of the Exeter Business Games at the final event of the competition at Exeter Quayside on Friday 21 June.

Having won five events out of seven and with a 20 point lead over defending champions South West Water; Atass were in a very strong position going into the final.

Although Tozers Solicitors were the winners of the River Activities on Friday, Atass’s significant lead ensured their overall victory.

Speaking about his team’s win, Dr Stephen Buckley of Atass Sports said: “The Business Games has been huge fun to take part in. With events as diverse as dodgeball and a pub quiz, everyone has had a chance to get involved and winning the overall competition is an achievement that the whole company is proud of.”

The Exeter-based company triumphed over 21 other local businesses after competing in a series of eight events over the past two months, including a Pub Games, Tag Rugby and Ten Pin Bowling. 2012 champions South West Water took second place, with Capita Financial and Michelmores Solicitors in joint third position. Bush and Co were awarded the Fair Play trophy for their commitment to the competition.

The Exeter Business Games, run by Exeter marketing agency Big Wave Media and sponsored by Event Exeter at the University of Exeter, are organised so employees can participate and represent their workplace through a range of enjoyable activities while networking with other local businesses.

Commenting on the Games, Business Development Manager at Big Wave Media and Games Co-ordinator, Debbi Moore, said: “This year’s Games have been brilliant. The enthusiasm, commitment and interest from the twenty-two teams has been outstanding and our sponsors and event hosts have come together to ensure all of the individual competitions have been enjoyable and well-organised.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in the 2013 Exeter Business Games for making it such a fantastic contest to be involved in.”

As well as taking part in the competitive events, teams have been busy fundraising for local charity, the Exeter Foundation. Last year the Games donated £5,435.84 to the Foundation; this year’s total will be revealed when the final cheque is handed over at the Exeter Business Games Awards Night in August.
