A group of sixth form students from South Dartmoor Community College have helped design a range of t-shirts, all of the proceeds of which will go to supporting the work of YMCA Exeter’s housing projects.

The project is called Good Material and was initiated by Exeter locals Oly Harrison and Charlie Martin. As well as working in their day job for a local marketing firm, Oly and Charlie have created the initiative in order to work with and inspire a generation of young designers, and introduce them to the world of graphic design. The young designers are currently students at South Devon Community College and the project was agreed and commissioned as a part of their individual A-level coursework pieces. Once each of the designs is then given the go ahead, the t-shirt designs are hand printed on 100% cotton and sold through Good Material’s website. All profits then being donated to YMCA Exeter.

Commenting on why Good Material chose to support YMCA Exeter as its first designated charity, Charlie Martin said: "After meeting with the YMCA team and learning more about the work they do, we felt we had to support them. Working with young, college students the YMCA was the perfect fit for the Good Material project; as the opportunity to help young, disadvantaged people resonated with the entire Good Material team. We only hope our t-shirts can help raise some money and awareness for the YMCA's great cause."

Likewise YMCA Exeter are proud to be working with such like-minded people for such an influential and life changing cause.

The Good Material website is now live and running, with orders for the t-shirts already being taken.

You can visit http://www.goodmaterial.co.uk/ to read more about how the project came into being and of course order your own Good Material t-shirt and help transform young lives in Exeter.
