An Exeter teenager has won a nationwide competition looking for the UK’s ‘perfect home’.

Amelia-Jane Clyde beat other entrants to the winning spot after impressing judges with her creativity and attention to detail.

Leading UK housebuilder Redrow ran the nationwide competition to find the ‘perfect home’, with young people across the country submitting drawings of their dream property, including which features they would incorporate.

Sixteen-year-old Amelia-Jane’s dream home included a ballet studio, trampoline park, library, kitchen, cinema, bedroom, slide, bathroom, ensuite, closet and a room for stitching, sewing and painting.

Amelia-Jane’s mum, Jennifer Clyde, said: “It incorporates all of Amelia-Jane’s hobbies; ballet, reading, painting, stitching and trampolining.”

The competition was supported alongside a survey of almost 2,000 UK parents on behalf of their children (under the age of ten), asking them what their child’s perfect home would look like.

The poll found that more than a third (39%) of children want a treehouse to live in, while 40% want a trampoline and 27% a ball pool in their house.

However, some children were more practical in their house demands. More than half (59%) said that they would like a big garden for their dream home, with a further 59% wanting a play room.

Emma Brindley, Group Interior Designer at Redrow, said:“We had a great response to our search for what young people think makes a perfect home, but Amelia-Jane was our clear winner. Her creativity and vision left many of us yearning after a home with a library, cinema room and art studio!”
