Food lovers and walkers are in for a real treat on 4th June at the inaugural ‘Gourmet Food Walk’ in Kilmington, East Devon.

The leisurely walk is a great chance to explore the picturesque Devon countryside.  Just over halfway along the route walkers will be rewarded with breathe-taking views for miles around.

Of course what makes the walk so special is the inclusion of food and drink from East Devon and Dorset. Walkers make several stops for refreshments and entertainment; at each is a delicious course of a meal prepared by cooks from the local area.

Among the delights on the menu are Devon Kitchen Deli’s starter of Wild Garlic Pesto with Cherry Tomato & Cheddar Quiche, Normandy Pork & Cider Stew or Somerset Stew cooked by Tuckers Arms Raft Club and a dessert of Rhubarb and Strawberry Cheesecake made by Kilmington New Inn.

As walking is thirsty work each course will be accompanied by an alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink, such as Dorset Wildcat Award Winning Cider, IPA Real Ale, Palmers Ginger Ale or Dorset Nectar Organic Apple Juice.

The event is raising money for Devon Freewheelers on the day.  Devon Freewheelers provide an out of hours service supporting the NHS in delivering essential blood, samples, medication and donor breast milk to hospitals throughout Devon and Dorset.  Although it is not compulsory to get sponsored the organisers hope that participants will choose to make a donation on the day to this very worthy cause.

Sally Raynes, Event Organiser at Wacky Nation said; “This event provides the perfect opportunity for retirees, groups of friends, families and young people to join together and enjoy this fun community event.  Absolutely anyone can take part and walk through stunning scenery & enjoy a gastronomic feast of local food and drink at their own pace.”

The event is open to everyone and entry cost £28.  Bookings will close two weeks before the event on the 21st May.  For more information and to register to take part visit www.wackynation.com
