As the summer holidays descend upon us, Knightshayes have kicked off the summer with a packed out programme of exciting events. These include the opportunity to climb the biggest Turkey Oak tree in England as well as achieve lots of the activities on the National Trust’s ‘50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ list.

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the summer holidays, there’ll be plenty of chances to get outdoors and close to nature exploring Knightshayes’ wider woodland and parkland.

2 - 4 August: Plant it, Grow it, Eat it.
With a huge, fully productive kitchen garden, Knightshayes is the perfect place for families to discover how to Plant, grow and eat their own fruit and veg.

9 - 11 August: Orienteering.
Visitors can navigate your way around the Knightshayes orienteering course with a map and compass.

16 - 18 August: Build a bug house
Children can learn how to make a lovely home for the creepy crawlies in their garden.

23 - 25 August: Tree Climbing
Knightshayes giant Turkey Oak tree is said to be the largest of its kind in England, and the Great Big Tree Climbing Company is offering to take visitors up into its canopy.

They will be able to climb up using ropes with the help of the qualified experts, and see the surroundings from a whole new height.  Hour-long sessions can be booked from 10am to 5pm through the Great Big Tree Climbing Company website; and more information is also on the Knightshayes website.

To add to the holiday adventures, there’s also a senses trail running in the woodland garden. Families can use their maps to explore the unique plants growing in the gardens, using their hands and noses by getting up close. There’ll even be a sticker prize at the end for all the little explorers.

To polish off the summer of fun, the annual Soupstock events will be taking place each Sunday of August with local bands and tribute acts. Kicking off with the Spice Girlz (7 August), followed by Rod Stewart (14 August), Elton John (21 August) and Dolly Parton (28 August).
