Exeter School pupils, parents and staff are celebrating a set of excellent A Level results.

Thirty-four pupils scored three or more A* or A grades with 18% at A*. Over half of all grades were A* and A with 83% at A*, A and B.

The school is particularly proud of its record number of medical offers this year with 11 pupils going on to study Medicine, two to study Veterinary Science and one to study Physiotherapy.

Twins Becky and Chris Richardson scooped up an incredible seven A* between them. Head Girl Becky is going to study Medicine at Nottingham University. She said she made some great friends with whom she would stay in touch always.

"The extra-curricular provision is one of the best parts," she said. "There are so many opportunities which make the Exeter School experience more than going to school!"

Her brother Chris is going to study Maths at Warwick University. He said it had been an amazing experience and that he had loved every minute from the subjects to the extra-curricular.

"I particularly enjoyed the trips such as last year's Vietnam expedition and the opportunity to play hockey in the national finals."

Cricketer Ben Green is celebrating a spectacular summer. Not only did he score the grades he needed to study Zoology at Birmingham University, he has also signed a three-year professional contract to play cricket for Somerset Cricket Club. He returned last week from an England U19 tour of Sri Lanka.

He said it was a dream come true to be able to play professional cricket but that he was also pleased he could return to his studies at a later date.

Talented musician Rebecca German has secured her offer to study Music at Durham University. Rebecca sings in the South West section of the National Youth Choir, travelling to London every weekend to rehearse. The former St Peter's Lympstone pupil has also performed locally in the Two Moors Festival as well as singing a solo in the school's Choral Society held at Exeter Cathedral and conducting at the school's WaterAid concert.

Ogden Trust scholar, Tom Barker, joined Exeter School aged 16 from West Exe School. His grade A* and 3 As guarantee his place to study Mechanical Engineering at Bath University. He said studying at Exeter School had opened new doors to him and deepened his interest in Physics.

Rugby player Jamie Walker joined Exeter School at 16 from Axe Valley Community College. His two A* and A grades mean he will study English at UCL. He said studying at Exeter School has given him great opportunities.

"Drama productions are on such a big scale here - I was assistant director on the senior school play, Our Town, and director of the Middle School play, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

"Sport is played at such a high level and, by taking part in rugby, I was able to make friends very easily with pupils in my year and the year above.

"It is a very friendly place and easy to settle in when you take part in activities."

Birthday girl Sarah Langworthy celebrated not only her 18th but excellent results today. The former Maynard School pupil achieved one A* and three A grades.

Headmaster Bob Griffin said he was pleased with this year's results which are testament to the hard work and dedication of pupils, staff and parents.
