Reception children at Exeter Cathedral School have rounded off their recent scheme of learning by holding their very own Dinosaur Day.

The pupils have been studying dinosaurs since returning to school in January, and this special celebration day saw them come to school dressed as their favourite prehistoric creature and perform a musical story of the rise and fall of the dinosaurs to an appreciative audience of parents and guests.

Liz Bowles, Reception teacher at ECS, said 'Dinosaurs has been a fantastic topic which has captured the imagination of both the children and their families. The classrooms have been buzzing with excitement and it has been a joy to observe the deep learning that has taken place as the children have engaged in activities, whether it has been working out how to rescue a dinosaur from a frozen egg or working collaboratively to build a model dinosaur’.

Exeter Cathedral School’s Headmaster, James Featherstone, said ‘Blending learning with creativity and fun – and of course a bit of dressing up – is a sure-fire way to engage young learners, and it has been terrific to see such excitement and purpose from the Reception children.  Our Pre-Prep staff are fantastic: when the teachers and teaching assistants all come to work in dinosaur onesies, you know they are dedicated to their cause!’.

Exeter Cathedral School is an independent day and boarding Prep School for girls and boys aged 3-13.  Founded in the 12th century as a choir school, ECS now educates approximately 275 pupils.  36 of these are the boy and girl Choristers of Exeter Cathedral, who continue the centuries-old routine of leading the daily sung worship in the Cathedral.  Nowadays, the School offers a fully-rounded Prep School education to pupils from a variety of backgrounds and with a range of talents and interests, whether they be sporting, academic, artistic or musical.  Located in the heart of the city and in the lee of the Cathedral, the School has small class sizes, outstanding pastoral care, and a celebrated track record of securing scholarships and awards to some of the country’s leading senior schools.

The School is hosting an Open Morning on 7th March: further information is available from Katy Hockings via reception@exetercs.org.
